Toki Tori
Wii Review: Charm and playability is what WiiWare is all about, and this game is no exception.

Battle of the Bands
Wii Review: It may have found a gap in the market, but BotB is a long way from filling it.

Dragon Quest Swords
Wii Review: Possibly too obscure for the casual market and too simplistic for the hardcore market.

LostWinds
Wii Review: This highly original WiiWare launch title is charming, cheerful and cheap.

House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Wii Review: There's nothing new to see, but the conversions work well enough.

Guitar Hero World Tour
Preview: The king of guitar games has its sights set on toppling Rock Band.

Japanese in "we prefer being fat" shocker
64 per cent stop using WiiFit immediately

It seems this WiiFit business may have been a bit of a fad after all. While its launch was greeted by retail like a new console in itself, with signs up and down the country informing consumers when the game was and wasn't in stock, the truth is many of those balance boards may already be gathering dust in the house closet.

Japanese website IT Media asked its readers how many of them still used the game, and a whopping 64 per cent said they'd given up on the title almost immediately after buying it.

If I were a little cleverer, I'd draw up a chart that directly compared those statistics to sales of McDonald's burgers across the same period of time. That'd prove something, right?

EA beats its chest and sounds the alarm: FIFA 09 will be pretty good
Were you expecting anything else?

So, Euro 2008 is over, with the mighty Spain crowned champions. Apart from those suffering a hangover in Madrid and the surrounding area, the rest of us are already itching for our league teams to get back in action.

A new season naturally means a new FIFA from the house that EA built, with the publisher promising "over 250 feature changes and additions focused on improving core gameplay."

I'd love it if they said that all they were going to change was the box-art, but that couldn't be further from the truth, apparently.

EA is promising that gamers will be able to "go inside the game engine" to change the way their team reacts in any given situation, as well as expanding the Be A Pro mode that allows players to take control of just one player on the pitch.

I'm personally banking on EA shoving in 'more realistic diving' and 'realtime stubble animation', but don't quote me on that.

Guinness World Records – The Videogame?
You're a record breaker, a record maker, yeah

So you may have noticed Guinness World Records' active involvement in the gaming sphere in recent years, releasing a gamers’ edition of their achievement bible and promoting a number of record breaking gaming events.

Well it’s a two-way street, now, apparently, as Warner Bros. has struck a deal to release Guinness World Records: The Videogame. Hopefully a while ago, as the game will be releasing in just a few months. From what we can gather, the Wii and DS-only title is basically a collection of quick-fire mini games, the theme of which is inspired by previous World Records (the proper kind).

Indy versus Snake – Indy wins
Also conquers the Dark

Indiana Jones is well known for his fear of snakes, but that hasn’t stopped him whipping Metal Gear Solid 4 from the UK charts top-spot. With its multi-format credentials and rather more accessible marketing message, LEGO Indiana Jones is now currently the UK’s most favouritest game. Of course, a certain big budget movie may have had something to do with it, too.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Alone in the Dark has entered the charts at a respectable number 3. For what it’s worth, we at Jolt rather like it when it’s not being a annoying, which is still more than we'd care to mention. You can read the full review on Saturday.

What else? Well, clearly Wimbledon fever has yet to take hold as 2K Sports’ Top Spin 3 has only registered at number 12, well below several games that have already been out for months. This week’s top 20 loser is Ninja Gaiden II, which is skulking (or possibly just falling) quickly out of sight. Apparently the British public aren’t masochists after all.

Cost of gaming: $30,500
A lifetime of entertainment adds up

How much do you spend on gaming every year? How about your entire lifetime?

That’s more or less the question that gaming information site GameStrata has set out to answer, by surveying North American gamers aged 18-48 and asking how much they spend each year. After doing some maths, the boffins have concluded that over their so-called ‘peak’ gaming years, the average gamer will spend more than $30,000 on the hobby.

While that’s a mere £15,000 in real money, once you take into account higher EU prices, you’re still looking at a pretty big total – and that’s just on average.

Our figure could easily be accounted for in PC upgrades alone, but the survey cites console game purchases and in particular digital content as a major source of expenditure.
